Let's Get Behind This

Project Graduation is a special event in our community that not only can’t happen without community support, but it is a moment when churches are invited into the public schools to serve the students.

The event is an all night lock-in at Buena High School for graduates and a guest (graduates get in free but guests require the purchase of a ticket). It is a night of fun and games with very nice prizes awarded to graduates at the conclusion of the event. Over the years it has become a beloved tradition and invaluable safe haven for graduates to celebrate quite literally ‘all night long’.

I remember multiple times when graduates suffered tragic accidents on what was to be the gateway to adulthood. One occurred around the corner from where we were living at the time, when a graduate, riding in the back of a pickup, fell out of the bed and hit his head on the curb. Thankfully, as Project Graduation gained widespread popularity, it’s been many years since any of us have had to wake up to that kind of news.

Our own Joe Farmer has been running point on this for years and our church has been a “graduate level” sponsor as well.  He recently did an interview with CoolFM that you can view here. We also show up and lead a game called The Minute Challenge where the students can play for free and win tickets to help them earn prizes.

Currently, we have eleven people signed up to help. Please pray for us as we reach out, touch lives, and grow people . . . FOR SV!
