Best of Sierra Vista
WHAT IS IT?
The local newspaper, Sierra Vista Herald, has an annual competition where people can nominate businesses in a myriad of categories, and when nominations close, people vote for the best in each category.
Congratulations to each of you who contributed to this achievement because you leave an impression on every life you touch in Jesus’ name, and many of those touches resulted in many votes as THE BEST.
There were MANY organizations nominated for the Non-profit category, and when the voting was over, we were awarded third place (for the second time in recent years)!
WHY DOES THIS MATTER?
To me, this recognition demonstrates that CHURCHES are seen as valuable contributors to our community.
For years, we sought to evaluate our church with the question, “If we ceased to exist, who would miss us?”
Similar to when people say, “I was absent from church, and nobody missed me!” my reply is usually, “It’s hard to see what’s NOT there, but people will miss your “touch” when it’s absent, so are you touching lives in a way that people miss when you are absent?”
WHY THIRD?
What I loved about being third was that the first and second place winners are non-profit organizations that we support financially (we have given to Warrior Healing Center and Peach’s Pantry over the years). So I actually rejoice that we helped them succeed as well.
NEXT GOAL?
My next goal is for us to win “Small Business of the Year” someday because churches are usually not only seen as selfish but also as poorly run. Everything we do is to raise the esteem people in our community have for ALL churches.
My long-time prayer for our church has been “When our community sees our hand reach out, they KNOW we only do it to GIVE.”
I pray that as the community grows in that awareness of us, that will affect how they see every church in town.
PROJECT SERVE SUCCESS!
I will report on details on Project Serve in a couple of weeks, but suffice for now that it was an incredible success!

Many were asking about where I served. This year Kim and I remained on campus to serve with the Student Council group from Huachuca Mountain Elementary School (Justin McPeak’s team) where we were blessed to meet many friends, new and old!
