Can You Help With Casa?
Casa Esperanza para los Niños (House of Hope for the Children) has been a Strategic Partner of TMC beginning in 2009. At that time, they had just relocated from a downtown location to a more spacious property which we immediately began to help build and develop.
Our Student Ministry led the way by pouring a concrete slab for a new building in three consecutive years. Early in the morning, we would mix cement and line up the wheelbarrows to transport it by hand from the mixer to the forms. They would work all day and then lead Vacation Bible School at local churches in the evening. It was hard work, but the students loved it!
Throughout the years, adults would travel down and help “finish” the buildings so they could be used to house children (who had been abused and abandoned) who would live with house parents as family units.
That was seventeen years ago and recently Casa began to expand again! Their goal is to open two new homes to house 2-5 year olds that will double the size of Casa’s impact!
Here is what long-time director and former Mission Partner at TMC (when they lived in Sierra Vista), Paul Plumb had to say, “Right now, just three or four weeks ago, we began building two new houses, actually a townhouse, that each house 12 children between the ages of two and five.”
“My goal is to get the house dried in by the end of August. After that, I will be looking for folks to go down and work on things like finish electrical, finish, plumbing, painting, floor covering, installing light and plumbing fixtures, installing ten mini splits, landscaping, installing playground equipment, appliances, fixtures,…If they want to help purchase the items they’re installing, that would be great too!”
“I have let all the contractors know but at that point, hopefully by September 15, we will pause the construction process to be sure that we have enough money to finish the building. I am hoping that we will have groups that will want to come down and help finish electrical, plumbing, heating and cooling (mini-splits), floor covering installation of artificial grass and both electrical and plumbing fixtures.”
“If TMC has a mission trip in Sept - Oct with some skilled labor that would be great timing for Casa. If they could text me and give me their skills, and the level of their skills, along with all possible dates between September 1 and November 15, that would be great.”
They can stay for three nights to ten nights, air-conditioned, insect free, towels, sheets, pillows, pillowcases, and beds provided. They can even eat a couple of their meals with the (Casa) families.
Paul added, “The security or safety concerns are the same that they have always been from my perspective. The same as they would be if we were traveling in downtown Phoenix, Los Angeles, Chicago. You are smart about where you go, when you go, and who you go with. Last month I went with my son, your daughter, and our granddaughter. I was never any more concerned for their safety than I would’ve been in American cities.”
“It’s a pretty exciting move/change for the Casa ministry. The building project will cost about $300,000, and when we have the house operating at full capacity, it will double our monthly expenses from $22,000 to close to $45,000. It’s a huge step of faith!”
“Thanks for the way you and TMC have faithfully supported the cost of ministry over the years.”
