I previously served for 5½ years as Associate Minister of the Missouri Valley Christian Church (1984-1989), where I also coached AYSO soccer, freshman boys and girls basketball, and started a Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
I am the Founding and Senior Pastor of Thunder Mountain Church. My wife Kim and I came in 1989 from Iowa to join with a few families who were looking for a different approach to doing church and reaching this generation for Christ. Eventually, I started coaching softball and teaching algebra in the local public high school, but God used that experience to transform my life and ministry. He opened the door for me to return to Thunder Mountain, and this time not to grow a church but to grow people and to see salvation not just as something that occurs when we die, but a blessing to live out daily as citizens of the Kingdom of God!
A trial emerged late in 2011 when a growth in my tongue was discovered to be a malignant tumor. Approximately 40% of my tongue was removed and rebuilt using the tissue from my wrist. Two other tumors were removed from my neck in the initial surgery and another was discovered after the completion of radiation and chemo requiring a second surgery on July 2, 2012. Initially, the doctors said that it might take a year to be able to speak clearly again, but I preached on the first Sunday of February 2013 and returned in April to regular preaching duties.
Kim and I were married in 1984. We have two grown and married daughters who serve the Lord with their husbands, and four grandchildren.
I received my bachelor of arts in Pastoral Ministry from Nebraska Christian College and my master of arts from Cincinnati Christian Seminary.
